Haiti Presentation

Thank-you to Dr Donna Smith, an orthopedic surgeon, who came to the BI today to describe her journey to Haiti. She gave an informative and inspirational talk that stimulated extensive discussion and numerous questions. She was able to help many Haitians who were in need of medical attention after January's earthquake. She worked with a medical team (C.M.A.) that operated out of tents set up on a school playground.

The students are expanding their vocabularies by asking me the meanings of words they come across in their S.Q.U.I.R.T. books. I was stumped today by lexicography (the writing or compiling of dictionaries) and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA - acids that transfer genetic information and synthesize protein).

We're all on our toes!!!

BI Fire Drill

We had a practice evacuation from the BI today. We cleared the building quickly and quietly in under 2 minutes. Good job.

We checked out CTV Olympic Updates on YouTube in Computer class today, then returned to our Data Management Project on Excel (Bar, Line & Pie Graphs). Way to go, Canada!!!

Non-uniform day tomorrow - wear red & white and celebrate our participation in the Olympics ! VTT Opening Ceremonies will be held at approximately 1:00pm - just before early dismissal at 2:00pm.

FSA Testing Done!

The students did an excellent job of focusing on their tests and doing their best. A few absentees need to finish up next week. Otherwise, we're done!

Inuksuks & Groundhogs

Check out our amazing Grade 4 Inuksuk in the main hallway. It's pointing the way to the Olympics! We are creating small stone inuksuks, as well - which we are going to offer for sale to raise money for Haiti Relief. Watch for further details.

Math - Long Division Skills - Choose a worksheet and complete 60 minutes of long division between now and next Tuesday. Manage your time: 6 - 10 minute sessions or 3 - 20 minute sessions. You can do it!

Light Show

We were thrilled to have Mr. Brian Herrin, the author of our Science textbook, join us on Friday for a hands-on presentation about LIGHT. He brought his lasers, fireworks chemicals, and reflectors. He demonstrated several types of energy (egs. mechanical, sound, electrical) and inspired us to ask questions. Thank-you, Mr. Herrin!

We will complete our FSA testing this week.
Make-ups for students who were absent will be next week.
