Our rehearsals are coming along very well.
Mrs. Lowenstein gave us big kudos today.

We were able to accomplish a tremendous amount as we waited our turn on stage, including computer mapping projects, math games, Spelling 10 pretest, and castle building.

Spectacular Science Projects

I'm looking forward to reading the Animal & Adaptations Projects. The students have become experts in their fields and learned valuable research skills. Parents, thank-you for your support on the homefront.

Also, thank-you for your generous donations to the Wildlife Rescue Association. After the presentation yesterday, we were able to give Krystal blankets, towels, cloths, toys, water, baby food, latex gloves, and cleanser for the rehabilitation of rescued animals.

Wildlife Rescue

We had a wonderful presentation from Krystal of the Wildlife Rescue Association today. She brought a REAL eagle, talked about rescue operations, and provided three hands-on stations about wings, nests, and skulls. She thanked us for all our donations.

Shabbat Shalom

We had a productive Science class in the Library today. We practised changing notes into sentences, and we worked on a rough copy of our Range Maps. Our "Spot Check" indicates that everyone has their folder at home now, and most students are well underway. Time management is essential. Students should be completing one section every two or three nights in order to avoid pressure nearer the deadline (Dec. 4 - Friday).

If you want to order photos or retakes, bring envelopes to class on Monday.

Early Dismissal begins

We had a lucky day today. The sun came out!

We had an excellent Science Research period in the Library. Folders for the project went home. Due date for the final expert booklet is Friday, December 4.
Review instructions, expectations, and preparations in the folders. Time Management is key with this project. Suggestion: Do one section (1 - 3 paragraphs) every two or three days.

Amazing Aquarium

We had an excellent visit to the Aquarium's AquaQuest "Staying Alive" program today. The students were curious and engaged. I was so proud of them, and so pleased we could experience this "hands-on" program. We held a jellylike sea cucumber, we lifted a giant turtle shell, and saw the two baby belugas playing. We will collect photographs and post them so you can share the day with us. Send pics to my email at squirke@talmudtorah.com.

Good Morning

Good Morning. I'm awaiting the second half of our Goal-Setting Conferences. We have had productive conversations about "reaching for the stars", and accomplishing our best academically and socially. Thank-you to parents and children for their energy and support with this endeavor.

We are looking forward to our Aquarium field trip on Tuesday morning. There is still a paid spot available for one more parent. We would welcome other parents as well. Cost is only $11.50 (student price) - paid to Mrs. Quirke. If you're joining us, meet at the bus at 9:25 am. Departure at 9:30 am.

The Sun Came Out!

Aquarium Field Trip information has gone home in the yoman today (blue sheet). We're looking forward to the "Staying Alive" program on November 10. Please send $11.50 to school to cover the cost of the trip. We do apologize for the expense, but VTT is dealing with a tight year financially.

Great Beginnings

We had an excelent start to our Grade 4 year. We were happy and engaged. Our timetables and specialist schedules were in full-swing right after recess. Our day included homeroom activities and a short assembly for all Grade 4's in the Multi-Purpose Room. We started to unpack our supplies. We will finish distributing and labelling everything tomorrow.

Activity Stations

We had a great day. We prepared our invitations for the Grade 3 Orientation tomorrow. We had a two period block for a variety of visual, spatial and puzzle challenges. We worked cooperatively with 2D & 3D activities. Great Stuff! "e"

Scrapbooks and folders "ss?" went home today. Be sure to admire all the highlighted work from the past year. The criteria sheet for report cards (stapled to folder) has some important information about how we arrive at the Grade 4 marks and final averages.

All Language Arts duotangs and workbooks are going home today. You'll be proud of how much lovely work the students have done this year. The Journals are especially precious. If there is incomplete work, the student was either away, or we didn't get time to complete the assignments. Workbooks can serve as excellent review on quiet days in the summer.

A few library books are still due into library. Report cards go out only when all books returned.

Bright and Shining Faces at Seniors' Lunch

We had the opportunity to join the Seniors' Lunch for a few minutes today. We went across the hall from our classroom, introduced ourselves and listened to four of our Science Fiction stories read by Adam, Aimee, Daniel, and Yuval. All our bright and shining young faces cheered the older folks immeasurably.

Reading Rainbow Timeline

Reading Rainbow #3 - due Tuesday, June 16.

A timeline for the completion of work for this mini-project has been given to students. It should help with time management, and hopefully make the process enjoyable. This assignment is meant to give students a chance to learn about an inspirational character, analyze found materials, and have some fun with interview and poster techniques.

Spelling 30 & 31 - Workbook due Friday as per usual. Some time in class will be provided for the completion of these 2 units.

Constable Beck Visits

We had a friendly visit from our neighborhood police officer today. He gave us safety tips for home, school, and community. He gave us specific rules to follow to avoid cyberbullying and foul play on the internet. Supervision by parents is key. Our follow-up discussion in class gave each student a chance to tell anecdotes about dangerous situations. We suggested safety tips for each scenario.

Wearing Pink

We affirmed kindness today - by wearing pink. VTT was bright and cheerful with color .

We presented our magazine reports today. What a variety of high-interest reading material is available! Magazines reviewed included Owl, Sports Illustrated, Chickadee, American Girl, SkyGaze, National Geographic, Wrestling, Wild, Lego Club, and Snowboarding. 75% of the class completed the bonus article review and pie chart section. Well-done!

Successful Book Club

Great job today during Lit Circles! Students listened with their ears, eyes and bodies. They summarized their novels and discussed key points. They took turns. They looked at primulas and nibbled cookies while inquiring about each others' books.

F.S.A. Testing Today

The students wrote amazing stories about incredible journeys today. They brainstormed, and then organized their thoughts on a planning page. They structured their stories, using a clear beginning, middle and end. When all is "said and done and marked", students will be receiving these test booklets to take home.

No homework tonight. We are going to leave plenty of time for working on our At-Home Reading Rainbow Projects (Magazine Analysis).

We started our F.S.A. Writing Tests today. The first assignment was an excellent exercise in "Compare & Contrast".

Snow-tubing at Cypress. A great time was had by all last Friday! The weather cooperated, and the snow was soft. Thank-you to all the parents who joined us.

Book Club Launch

Literature Circles were introduced today. Each student will receive a novel of their choice tomorrow. Reading can begin immediately. Assignments and preparation for book club will start next week.

F.S.A. Ministry Testing begins Monday, Feb. 2. Several periods in February will be taken up with this provincial endeavor. Information from the Administration should be sent home by end of week. No preparation needed on the part of students or parents.

Light Extravaganza

Mr. Brian Herrin "lit up our day" with his presentation on the properties and sources of LIGHT.
He had demonstrations and discussions using lasers, solar panels, light meters and colorful burning chemicals. Today's learning launches our second term Science unit on LIGHT. Thank-you to the BI for letting us set up in the Judaica Hallway, and to Mr. Herrin for coming from the North Shore to visit us.
